Fun Times at the GAMA Trade Show

The president and vice president of Stratus Games had the opportunity to attend the 2011 Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) Trade Show. The show was held at the Bally's casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the week of March 15th.

"At the show, we had the opportunity to meet and speak with many wonderful people, including store owners, distributors and fellow game publishers," remarked Chris James, President. "There was a lot of interest surrounding our products and we were able to demonstrate them to interested parties from all around the world. We also had the opportunity to have lots of fun playing our games during the community game night. It was a very memorable and enjoyable experience for us!"

Stratus Games would like to express appreciation to GAMA for organizing the event, PSI for providing the booth space, as well as all of the kind individuals who stopped by to chat.

Instructional Videos Released

In order to reach a broader audience of board and card game enthusiasts, Stratus Games has released instructional videos for each current game title as an alternative to the standard written instructions already provided. In addition to current titles, Stratus Games also plans to release videos for each future game release.

"Many of our customers, particularly those who prefer lighter family games as opposed to heavier strategy games, would rather view a visual demonstration of a game than study written instructions," explained Stratus Games President, Chris James. "By creating these videos, we hope to narrow the gap for game enthusiasts of all backgrounds to experience the enjoyment our products have to offer."

In addition to instructional videos, shortened introductory videos have also been released in order to provide viewers with a quick overview of each game. The videos are currently available on Youtube and Stratus Games' official website.

Game retailers, blog writers and others are encouraged to embed these videos in their own websites, display them in-store, or simply spread the word about them.

Coming Soon: Eruption

Eruption cover artStratus Games' latest project is an exciting volcano-themed board game where players defend their villages from scorching hot lava flows. Players attempt to protect their villages by attempting to direct lava toward other villages and building walls near their own villages to hold back the lava. As lava enters each village, the village heats up until it is burned up completely.

The inhabitants of the villages surrounding a dormant volcano were happily living in peace, until — KABOOM! — the old volcano sprung back to life, unleashing rivers of molten lava in every direction and blasting volcanic rock into the sky. The villages, now faced with destruction, must do whatever they can to protect their homes from the incoming surge of lava.

Your village is about to burn up — can you take the heat?

Eruption will contain a full-size game board featuring a volcano and surrounding villages, hexagonal tiles representing lava flows in various directions, rectangular wooden pieces representing walls made of various materials, and action cards with various events and actions related to the volcanic eruption.

The artwork for Eruption is being done as a collaborative effort by Andy Kurzen and Matthew Plett. The game will feature a Polynesian-style island theme with colorful cover art and components.

Eruption is scheduled for release in the 4th quarter of 2011. For more information, see the official Eruption website.
